Texas South Mid-Am: Barrett Sandefur takes lead
AUSTIN, Texas (March 15, 2013) -- The first round of the South Mid-Amateur Championship, presented by Club Champion, saw Barrett Sandefur take the early lead.
Hosted by Austin’s Grey Rock Golf Club, the field was welcomed with sunny skies and breezy conditions. Two players, Bob Kearney and Trevor Hyde, sit two strokes off of Sandefur’s lead. Sandefur, a member of Grey Rock, recorded four birdies and three bogies on the front nine for a 1-under par 35. With one last bogey on the back nine, coupled with three straight birdies on holes 15 through 17, Sandefur will take the lead heading into the second round at 3-under par 69. Houston’s Kearney, and Hyde, of Kerrville, are both two shots behind first round leader Sandefur. Kearney and Hyde both carded three birdies and two bogies en route to their 1-under par 71s. Thomas Immenschuh, of San Antonio, and Austin’s Joe Bendetti, both posted even par rounds of 72. The second round will begin Saturday at 8:00am with tee times off of holes #1 and #10. Players will try to take advantage of “moving day” to put themselves in position to make their way up the leader board.
