Tar Heel Cup: Amateurs top pros, 7-5
PINEHURST , N.C. – Final results of the 19th Tar Heel Cup Matches hosted by The Country Club of North Carolina (Cardinal) in Pinehurst, NC on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 (6980 yards, par 72).
Eight North Carolina amateur golfers squared off against eight North Carolina PGA Professionals in the 19th Tar Heel Cup Matches. The two day match play event concluded on Tuesday at the Country Club of North Carolina (Cardinal Course).
Holding a 3-1 lead heading into the final day of singles matches, the amateur team split the singles matches 4-4 to win the Tar Heel Cup for the second straight year by a final score of 7-5.
The Professionals have dominated this event with a 13-4-2 all-time record but the Amateurs hold a 2-0-2 record in the last four meetings.
The first round of the competition consisted of Four-Ball Matches with the final round contested by Singles Match Play, with each match worth one point of the final total.
This event is jointly conducted by the Carolinas Golf Association and the Carolinas PGA Section.
