Bermuda Match Play: Dillas, Symonds win titles
HAMILTON PARISH, Bermuda (March 10, 2013) -- Jarryd Dillas and Ann Symonds are the 2013 Bermuda Amateur Match Play Champions, while Andrew Osbourne came away with the Men's Consolation Championship title.
In the Men’s Championship Flight Dillas defeated number three seed Chris Brough 8 & 6, after the first 18 holes Dillas was 6up, Dillas said, “Theconditions were tough out there, not only did I have the challenge of my opponent I also had to deal with the wind and rain, but I thought to myself, he has the same condition to deal with as well.”
In the Ladies Championship Flight, number four seed Ann Symonds defeated Linda Down 1up. Symonds who was 3up after 18 was still 3up after 31 holes with five to play, Down came storming back and missed a putt on the 36th hole that would have sent the game to a sudden-death play-off. Symonds said, “Down pushed me hard today, she never gaveup and I just had to concentrate on my game, I was getting extremely tired after playing 36 holes yesterday and was doing another 36 today was another big challenge, but I am happy with my game.”
In the Men’s Consolation Flight, Andrew Osbourne needed to go to sudden-death before getting the better of Julian Brassington. The pair were even after 18 holes and Osbourne won the title on the 19th hole.
