Bodney prevails at Jones Cup Senior
SEA ISLAND, Georgia (March 6, 2013) -- Mike Bodney shot a final-round 74 and prevailed by three shots over the field at the 2013 Jones Cup Senior Invitational at Sea Island's Seaside Course.
On a day when scores ballooned, Bodney remained consistent. His 4-over 74 was the lowest mark of the day and it kept him ahead of Vern Spurlock and Bill Zylstra, who finished second and third, respectively.
Spurlock was in contention following Round 2 but struggled in the finale with a 78. Zylstra used a solid 75 --- when others struggled --- to move into one of the top three positions.
Ron Carter, who held the lead entering Wednesday's final round, ballooned to a closing 86.
The 54-hole senior invitational event inaugurated in 2012 follows in the footsteps of the Jones Cup, an event that unofficially kicks off the amateur circuit each year.
