DADE CITY, FLORIDA (January 18, 2006) -– Mike Bell continued his erratic, but winning, ways Jan. 18, shooting a final-round 78 to hold on and win the Golfweek Senior Amateur.
Bell, of Indianapolis, finished with a three-day total of 1-under 215, two shots better than Ken Redfern. John Baldwin finished third, another shot back.
Bell, 58, is on a roll. He won the Society of Seniors' Ralph Bogart tournament to end 2005, then he won the Riverwood Senior Invitational, which was the first major senior tournament of 2006.
He also nearly won the Miromar Lakes Invitational, but suffered one his unfortunate train wrecks.
Still, Bell will continue his move up the Golfweek/Titleist Senior Amateur Rankings, where he is currently tied for 11th.
Golfweek's top-ranked senior amateur, Tim Miller, of Kokomo, Ind., finished tied for 14th at 9-over 225.
