Round 1 complete at High Plains Amateur
GARDEN CITY, Kansas (Aug. 25, 2012) -- Round one of the 2012 High Plains Amateur is in the books at The Golf Club at Southwind in Garden City, Kan. The championship features three age divisions for competitors of all ages (Open, Masters and Senior).
In the Open Division, Garden City resident and Southwind member Grant Vollertsen holds the 18-hole lead after firing a 4-under par 67.
Kansas State golfers Kyle Weldon and Ben Juffer along with two-time Colorado Golf Association Mid-Amateur champion Keith Humerickhouse are lurking two shots behind after shooting 2-under par 69's.
In the Masters Division, Garden City's Shawn Audrain, a member at Southwind, holds the lead following a round one 4-under par 67.
Andrew King of Junction City is one shot back at 3-under par 68. In the Senior Division, Greg Goode, Salina and John Bailey, Nashville, Tenn., are tied for the lead after both players posted 2-under par rounds of 69. Round two groupings & starting times for all divisions and courses are posted.
Players in the Open Division that shot a score of 80 or higher in round one at Southwind will play their second round at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course for round two in a separate prize pool.
