Michigan (GAM) Championship: Dalga rolls
BENTON HARBOR, Mich. (Aug. 21, 2012) -- Jared Dalga’s final round at the 91st GAM Championship was just like he pictured it and ended with him hoisting the championship trophy.

“I had a good game plan,” said Dalga.” I thought about what I wanted to do in bed the night before and through the first five holes I think I was two under. So everything was just clicking.”

Dalga shot a 4-over-par 72-73-73—218 for the two-day, 54-hole tournament.

Dalga (Kentwood) switched to a belly putter at the 101st Michigan Amateur in June and said recently he started feeling more confident on the greens.

“At first I was not really sure about making the switch,” said Dalga. “It seemed fine at the pro shop but then I took it on the course and couldn’t figure it out. Then one day all of a sudden I just figured it out and my putting has been spectacular since then.”

Dalga started the day three strokes off the lead.

“I’ve been struggling on ball striking and trying to get back into the groove,” said Dalga. “Today I was driving well off the tee which was a big factor and making putts inside 10 feet which was also huge.”

The only hole that haunted Dalga throughout the tournament was the par 3 13th. He bogeyed it in all three rounds and just could not manage to land his tee shot where he wanted it. It seemed to be the only hole where he struggled.

“Exactly what I wanted to do I was doing it,” said Dalga. “I knew if I stuck to the plan I went over in my mind I would be able to post up a good number and I did.”
