Grainger leads North Carolina Senior Amateur
ADVANCE, NC (May 16, 2012) -- First round results of the 27th
North Carolina Senior Amateur Championship of the Carolinas Golf
Association hosted by Oak Valley Golf Club in Advance, NC on
Wednesday, May 16, 2012 (6400 yards, par 36-35—71, 70.7/130).
Jim Grainger of Charlotte carded a four-under par 67 that included
a birdie-eagle start to take a one stroke lead following the first
round.
Defending champion, Paul Simson of Raleigh, NC posted a three-
under par 68 that included a back-nine 31. He stands tied for
second place along with Rick Luzar of Pinehurst and Michael Bivins
of High Point.
Logan Jackson of Winston-Salem hit the shot of the day by making
a hole-in-one at the 120-yard par three sixth hole.
First round of the championship was pushed back to Wednesday
due to wet course conditions following over five inches of rain since
Sunday night. Due to the wetness of the 10th fairway, the hole
was shorted to a 164-yard par three for today’s round. Par for
round one was 71.
The championship has been shortened to 36 holes with the final
round set for Thursday. All 123 competitors will play the second
round without a cut. Starting times are back on schedule for
Thursday’s play at Oak Valley with the first starting time at 8:00am
off both #1 and #10.
