St Augustine Amateur set for October 14-16 in Florida
ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (October 8, 2005) — Out of more than 150 applicants,
the St Augustine Amateur Committee is pleased to announce its final field of 84
for 2005.
Leading the field is defending champion Tyler Brown of Ponte Vedra, Florida
and the University of North Florida who won last year event with a score of
68-69-72~209.
Among the nationally ranked, collegiate players committed for this year is
Adam Scrimenti of NAIA champions Johnson & Wales University. Flagler College
will have eight players competing led by Captains Anders Ekdahl and Brad Barfield.
Among the top junior players who have committed are Peter Uihlein (2005 AJGA
Canon Cup points leader) and Mu Hu of IMG/Leadbetter Academy. Both are members
of the 2005 Canon Cup team. Also playing will be Spence Fulford – fresh
from a top 10 finish in this year’s Southern Junior.
Two-time FSGA Public Links champion (and last year’s 3rd place finisher)
Robert Parker will be back for another crack at the title, as will UNF standouts
Matt Haglund, and Michael O’Neal.
The players in the field are from 16 states and 4 countries. 20 colleges and
universities are represented. Jay Jennison, Tournament Chairmen, said: “With
so many well qualified applicants it was difficult this year to make our choices
for the final spots in the field. Unfortunately, we had to turn away many good
players.”
The winner will receive a replica of the St Augustine Amateur Championship
crystal trophy created by Heritage Creations of Glens Falls, NY.
Among the sponsors of this year’s event are St. Johns County Tourist
Development Council, St. Augustine Alligator Farm Zoological Park, Flagler College,
