MCGA Staedler-Jetter Matches: Amateurs lead pros, 8-6

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. (Oct. 24, 2011) -- After the first day of competition, the NCGA amateurs lead the NCPGA professionals 8 to 6. Ron Johnson and Bob Olds of the NCGA prevailed 5 and 4 over Rick Rhoads and Al Krueger. Not to be outdone, professionals Shawn Kelly and Charlie Gibson won their match against NCGA Senior-Four Ball champions Jim Knoll and Jeff Burda 4 and 3. Knoll and Burda tied with Kelly and Gibson in the morning round.

The NCGA amatuers established a lead over the NCPGA professionals after the first-round foursomes 4 ½ to 2 ½. In an impressive showing, the NCGA team of Dan Bieber and Herb Jensen defeated the NCPGA team of Michael Cook and Glen Stubblefield 5 and 4. Rick Rhoads and Al Krueger posted the only win for the professionals, beating Ron Johnson and Bob Olds 2 and 1.

Jim Knoll, Jeff Burda, Rob Adolph, Doug Johnson, Dan Bieber, Herb Jensen, Peter Moren, John Enright, Mark Miller, Casey Boyns, Gene Ackerman, Jay Guerin, Ron Johnson, Chris Clark and Bob Olds make up the NCGA Staedler-Jetter team. The NCPGA’s team consists of Rick Dudley, Ed Hester, Dave Delong, Ron Parsons, Michael Cook, Glen Stubblefield, Al Weinhold, Mitch Thomas, Shawn Kelly, Charlie Gibson, Jim Collart, Gary Plato, Rick Rhoads, Rick Jetter and Al Krueger.

Both championships conclude tomorrow at Poppy Hills.

ABOUT THE Staedler-Jetter Senior Cup Matches

The Staedler-Jetter Cup features 14 amateur players ages 55-over (10 Seniors and four Super Seniors) representing the NCGA (top players from the previous season’s points list) taking on 14 professional players ages 55-over representing the Northern California PGA in a Ryder Cup-like format.

The first day of play consists of two rounds—one round of four-ball match play (better ball) and one round of foursome match play (alternate shot). The second day of play’s final rounds consist of singles match play.
