Noel wins Women's Texas Amateur
MONTGOMERY, TX (July 30, 2011) -- Maggie Noel of Houston, TX and recent Northern Texas University graduate has become the 90th WTGA State Amateur Champion. Maggie was able to take down this year’s medalist Katelyn Sepmoree 1 up after a tough and hard fought match.
Maggie had a tough road to the finals with her largest margin of victory only being 2 & 1 which came in her quarterfinal match. She had two other matches that took extra holes but after battling through the heat of Conroe, TX she was able to come out on top.
In the consolation side of the Championship bracket, Carol Martin of Irving, TX was able to defeat Taylor Stockton of Houston after a long 21 hole match.
In flight 1, Sarah Hurt of Southlake was able to take down Erica Pressley of Selma 4 & 3 to take home the first flight championship.
In the second flight, Carol Turnage from Anna, was able to hold off Lecia Alexander of Stafford by a score of 2 up to win the second flight championship.
Flight three was won by Suzan Knox of Crockett who defeated Suzzette Kirchner from Spring, TX by a score of 5 & 3.
The flight four championship went to Diane Sloan of San Antonio who won by a score of 5 & 3 over Montgomery’s own Shirley Rabuck.

ABOUT THE Women's Texas Amateur
Eligibility: Entries are open to female amateur
golfers with a certified GHIN Handicap index.
Player Field: Lowest handicap indexes in multiples of
8 with a maximum of 88 players. In the event the
championship becomes over-subscribed, entries will
be accepted in order of handicap index.
Format: The starting field will consist of 88 total
players. The 32 players with the lowest qualifying
scores will fill the championship flight and contend
for the championship title. The qualifying round is
optional for all but the players with the 32 lowest
handicap indexes on the date the entries close. The
16 players eliminated in the first round of the
championship flight match play may participate in an
18-hole stroke play consolation round. The remaining
players will be flighted into seven flights of eight
based on handicap indexes. The four players
eliminated in the first round of flight matches will
proceed to a consolation match play bracket for each
flight.
