Georgia Women's Match Play: Top seeds advance
CARROLLTON, Ga. (June 15, 2010) -- Top-seed Lauren Court of Lawrenceville won both her matches on Wednesday to advance to the quarterfinals of the Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship and will face 8th seed Caitlin Watts of LaGrange in the first match on Thursday at 8:48 a.m.
In today’s round-of-32 match, Court defeated Rome’s Bonnie Grizzard, 6 and 5. Court then took on So Jeong Lee of Duluth in the round of 16 and won, 2 and 1.
Number two-seed Taylor McGraw of Forsyth will face 10th-seed Amira Alexander of Alpharetta in the quarterfinals, after defeating both Ellen Dempsey of St. Simons Island (6 and 5) and Annie Swords of Newnan (5 and 4).
Number 3-seed Mariah Stackhouse of Riverdale defeated Lisa Vicknair-Rush of Buford (6 and 5) and Rebeca Garcia of Marietta (7 and 6), and is set to face 6-seed Margaret Shirley of Athens in her quarterfinal round.
In the first flight, Joyce Doss of Carrollton defeated both Xia Ballew of Cumming, 6 and 4, and Dawn Young of Douglasville, 3 and 1. Mary Riley of Perry defeated a pair of players from Sandersville, Beth Turner (4 and 3) and Cynthia Hancock (10 and 8), and will take on Doss in the final match of the First flight on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The Georgia Women’s Match Play Championship will resume Thursday with the quarterfinal and semifinal matches for the Championship flight, as well as the First flight’s final match. The final match of the Championship flight will be contested Friday, June 17.

Open to female amateur golfers in two separate
divisions - Championship and Senior Women's
Championship (for those age 50 and older as of the
first day of the competition)
Maximum field size of 84 players - low 42 players
chosen by handicap index for Women's Match Play
Championship qualifying and 42 players for the
Senior Women's Match Play Championship
qualifying;
if
a division doesn't fill, more players may be added to
the other division for stroke play qualifying and
additional match play flights
36 holes of stroke play qualifying followed by match
play for the low 32 players; the low 16 qualifying
scores will comprise the Championship Flight; the
remaining 16 players that make the cut will be
seeded
into a Tournament Flight based on qualifying scores.
