Hyde-Pocknall lead at Texas Four-Ball
KERRVILLE, Tex. (May 13, 2011) -– Perfect scoring conditions were the talk of the players following the close of the first round of the State Four-Ball Championship which is being held at The Club at Comanche Trace in Kerrville. Mild temperatures and the absence of gusting winds opened up the course as twenty-two teams found themselves under par after Round 1. The team of Trevor Hyde (Kerrville) and David Pocknall (Katy) bolted their way to the top of the leader board after posting a nine under par, 63.

Hyde, who was celebrating his birthday, found his rhythm with the putter as he carded eight birdies of his own, five of which came on the back nine. Coupled with great play by his partner, the team of Hyde/Pocknall found themselves three shots better than the current second place team of John Bearrie (Arlington) and Aaron Hickman (Dallas) who carded a 66. Defending champions Rob Couture and Dru Fenimore of Dallas find themselves in a seven way tie for third after posting a five under par, 67.

Two time winners of the Four-Ball Championship while hosted at The Club at Comanche Trace (2003 & 2004), Titus Harris and Terrance Miskell, have their sites on making a run at another title after firing a three under par, 69, putting them six shots behind the leaders with two rounds still to play.

In 2010, the team of Rob Couture and Dru Fenimore won the championship division in dramatic fashion. Couture and Fenimore came from five shots back to win at Stonebriar Country Club in Frisco. It was the second time Couture had claimed the Four-Ball title, but the first with Fenimore as a partner. The team used a final round of 9 under par to make the comeback and finished the week at a remarkable 24 under par.
