Couture Wins 4th Straight Texas North Mid-Amateur
ANNA, TX (March 28, 2010)--Strong winds were the theme of the week at the North Mid-Amateur Championship. Hurricane Creek Country Club hosted this year’s championship and proved to be a great challenge with help from cold, gusty winds. The course only yielded one round under par for the entire week, but in the end consistent play gave Rob Couture the title.

Rob Couture’s name is now synonymous with North Mid-Amateur champion, after winning for the fourth year in a row. Couture, of Dallas, has simply dominated amateur golf in the state of Texas over the last few years. He is the 2007 and 2009 North Player of the Year, only taking a break in 2008 to be named the State Player of the Year. Couture fired rounds of 73-75-73 and cruised home to a five shot victory. Jerry Searls, a Hurricane Creek member, used his local knowledge to fire the only under par round of the week. Searls made five birdies on his way to posting an one under par round of 71 in Sunday’s final round. Searls used his great round to vault up the leader board all the way to second place. Searls also claimed exemptions into the Texas Amateur and State Mid-Amateur later this year with his strong finish.

To be eligible for the North Mid-Amateur applicants must be male amateur golfers who have reached the age of 25 by March 26, 2010, belong to a club that is a current member of the Texas Golf Association, have a GHIN Handicap Index of 8.4 or less, and reside in the North Texas region which is defined as being above the 31st parallel with the town of Salado, located about 50 miles north of Austin, being the break point.

Format is scheduled for 54 holes of stroke play. The winner and runner-up of the 2010 North Mid-Amateur will receive an automatic exemption into the 2010 Texas Amateur to be held June 24-27 at Royal Oaks CC in Dallas. The top three finishers will receive an automatic exemption into the 2010 State Mid-Amateur, scheduled for September 17-19 at Boot Ranch GC in Fredericksburg.

The Texas Golf Association would like to express its sincerest thanks to the entire membership and staff of Hurricane Creek CC for their continued support of amateur golf by hosting the 2010 North Mid-Amateur.
