North Texas Four-Ball: Harwell and Felps Hold On
2010 North Texas Four-Ball champions
FORT WORTH, TX (February 28, 2010)--The wind picked up for the second round of the North Four Ball Championship hosted by Mira Vista Country Club. After a calm day one, clouds and gusty winds made conditions a little more challenging for the players chasing the overnight leaders. Even with the much stronger winds, 19 teams posted second rounds of par or better and 12 teams finished under par for the championship. A few teams made a strong comeback, but in the end Jason Felps and Colby Harwell held on for a one shot victory.
Felps of Waco and Harwell of Lorena had a comfortable four shot lead after the first round, but things got interesting on the last few holes. The pair got off to a consistent start, but couldn’t make any birdies to pull away. Their lead was cut to one shot after a bogey on the 16th hole, but two pars coming in earned them the victory. Felps and Harwell managed just one birdie on day two, but it turned out to be enough. This is the second victory in the North Four Ball for Jason Felps, but the first with Harwell as a partner. Harwell claimed the title in his first ever Texas Golf Association championship.
The father-son duo of Mark and Jordan Woolf made the biggest move on Sunday. A four under par round of 67 vaulted them into a tie for second place. Mark and Jordan Woolf, both of Fort Worth, made five birdies and one bogey during their comeback effort. Jimmy Wheeler and Jeff Wolff followed up their opening round 68 with a 69 to tie for third place. Greg Boots and Lucas Boyd had four birdies and one bogey to join the tie for third place.
