WOODBURN, OR (June 11, 2009) – Chris Maletis of Portland, Ore. went wire-to-wire to win the 45th Annual Pacific Northwest Senior Men’s Amateur Championship played at the OGA Golf Course in Woodburn, Ore.

Maletis held a three stroke lead over Larry Daniels of Seattle, Wash. and John Gallacher of Burnaby, B.C. heading into the final round. Daniels made a run at Maletis shooting a front nine score of 4-under par 32 to tie for the lead. Maletis proved to be too much down the stretch and pulled away shooting a final round 2-under par 70 to seal the victory by two strokes, giving him a three day total of 7-under par 209. Daniels finished runner-up with a three day total of 5-under par 211. This is Maletis’s second PNGA Senior Men’s Amateur victory. He won this championship in 2007 when it was played at Desert Canyon Golf Resort in Wenatchee, Wash.

In the Open Division, Richard Cardwell of Lakewood, Wash. also went wire-to-wire to win the overall Open Division Championship. Cardwell shot a 4-under par 68 in the final round to bring his three-day total to 4-under par 212.

The OGA Golf Course is located in Woodburn, Ore. and is owned and operated by the Oregon Golf Association which is an allied association of the PNGA. This marks the first PNGA Championship to be held on the championship layout however, numerous OGA Championships and USGA Qualifiers have been held here over the years.

ABOUT THE PNGA Senior Amateur

Format: 54-hole Stroke Play Competition for seniors and super seniors with the following divisions:

Senior Championship (55+) – Contestants entering in the Senior Championship will compete in individual competition only (gross only) and will play from a separate set of tees, at a longer yardage.

Open Division (55+) – Contestants entering the Open Division will compete in an individual and a four-ball partnership competition (gross and net) and will compete from a shorter yardage. Players will be divided into flights according to age for individual competition only.

Super Senior Championship (65+) – Contestants entering in the Super Senior Championship will compete in individual competition only (gross only) and will play from a separate set of tees, at a slightly shorter yardage.
