East Side Am: Caravia takes it

WOOD RIVER, Ill. (June 12, 2011) --Phil Caravia who plays out of Gateway National GL fired a 6-under par total to win the 8th East Side Amateur at Belk Park GC Sunday. He had rounds of 68-70 to earn the victory.
Caravia, who recently qualified for the US Amateur Public Links Championship, continued his strong play early in the 2011 season with his first victory in the East Side Amateur. He held on to his 2-shot lead following the first round on Saturday to hold off Justin Bryant of Bellerive CC, who had back-to-back 70s to finish alone in 2nd.
With the 1-2 finish by Caravia and Bryant, the gap was closed behind current MAGA Player of the Year Points leader Skip Berkmeyer. Berkmeyer was playing in the Sunnehanna Amateur this weekend.
Don Bliss and Jeff Johnson maintained their tie atop the Senior Player of the Year race, each shot even par 144 over the 2 rounds.
