PASO ROBLES, Calif. (Oct. 26, 2008) - The NCGA Junior Tour - South Coast championship concluded today with two worthy champions in the girls’ and boys’ divisions at Hunter Ranch GC.
In the Boys’ division, Michael Weaver of Fresno carded a final-round 4-under-par 68 to back up his first round 69 and claim the victory by three strokes. Weaver’s round included six birdies and a three-under-par back nine.
Cory McElyea of Santa Cruz posted the low round of the tournament with a five-under-par 67 which included 32 on the front nine and an eagle on the par-5 7th hole.
Matthew Hansen of Los Osos managed to hold on to third place along with Bryson Dechambeau of Clovis and San Jose’s Adam Loran at two-under-par 142.
In the Girls’ division, the first round was reduced to nine holes, making the competition a 27-hole event.
Casie Cathrea of Livermore came from one stroke behind to win by a five-stroke margin at two-over-par 110. Cathrea’s final round of 73 was propelled by finishing the last 12 holes in two-under-par.
Napa’s Taylor Bickell posted a 75 to nab second place at three-over-par 115, one stroke ahead of Pacific Grove’s Haley Andreas who held the overnight lead and finished in third with 80.
The NCGA Junior Tour finishes out its season with the Tour Championship at Belmont GC in Fresno on November 1-2.
