The R&A, colloquially known as the Royal & Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews is all set to host the 74th edition of Girls’ Amateur Championship and the 72nd edition of Boys’ Amateur Championship at Ganton and Fulford, respectively, in England.

Leaderboards

Currently, the championship involves two rounds of stroke play, following which the 64 participants with the lowest scores engage in six rounds of match-play scheduled as follows: Round 1 on August 17, Rounds 2 and 3 on August 18, Quarterfinals and Semifinals on August 19, and culminating in the Finals on August 20.

Notably, all match-play rounds encompass 18 holes, with the exception of the grand finale, contested over 36 holes. In the event of a tie, extra holes will be played to determine the ultimate victor.

Girls’ Amateur Championship

First played in 1919, the R&A Girls’ Amateur Championship is a highly coveted junior title. Past winners include major champions and Solheim Cup players such as Anna Nordqvist, Suzann Pettersen, Azahara Munoz, and Georgia Hall.

More recently, Slovenia's Pia Babnik triumphed in 2019 and has already gone on to win on the Ladies European Tour.

The winner gains exemptions into the Women’s Amateur Championship, the US Girls’ Junior Championship, Final Qualifying for the AIG Women’s Open, and by tradition, an invite to compete at Augusta National Women's Amateur Championship.

Helen Briem

Helen Briem of Germany is ranked 18th on the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings is also the highest-ranked golfer in the field this week across the categories.

The 190cm tall, 18-year-old golfer has had a solid winning history in the past three years. She has won the 2021 European Young Masters and added three wins in 2022 - European Nations Cup, Italian International Women’s Amateur, and Women’s World Amateur Team Championship.

In 2023, her best finish, a runners-up position, came at the Italian International Women’s Amateur, a tournament she had won last year.

Additionally, she has played three events on the LET Access Series, where she has already registered two runners-up finishes, missing out on a pro title in a very short span of time.

Francesca Fiorellini

17-year-old Francesca Fiorellini of Rome in Italy is ranked 20th on the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings. The UCLA commit has had a successful junior career in Europe. She won the English Girls U14 Championship in 2018 and the British Girls U16 Amateur Golf Championship in 2019.

She also represented Italy at the European Young Masters, the European Girls' Team Championship, and the World Junior Girls Championship. In 2022, she won the Annika Invitational Europe and finished in a tie for 36th at the Ladies Italian Open. In 2023, she won the Italian International Ladies Amateur Championship, the only participant to score below par.

Savannah De Bock

Savannah De Bock of Belgium is a rising star in women's golf. She is ranked 32nd on the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings and has a number of impressive accomplishments under her belt.

In 2022, she won the European Ladies Championship and finished as runner-up at the Spanish Ladies Amateur. Last week, she beat Maddie Szyrek, a pro golfer on the Epson Tour, in a playoff at the Final Qualifying for the AIG Women's Open to book the last spot in the field.

Boys’ Amateur Championship

The R&A Boys’ Amateur Championship is one of the most prestigious tournaments in junior golf and is played annually in Great Britain and Ireland.

The international field attracts the best junior male golfers from around the globe and former winners include Sir Michael Bonallack, José María Olazábal, Sergio Garcia, Matthew Fitzpatrick, Adrián Otaegui, Tom Lewis and David Howell.

Played since 1921, the champion earns exemptions into The Amateur Championship and Final Qualifying for The Open.

Connor Graham

16-year-old Connor Graham of Scotland is ranked 122nd on the Golfweek/AmateurGolf.com Rankings. He stands as the best-ranked player in the men’s field, who registered a win at the European Men’s Team Championship in Slovakia in July and Scottish Men’s Open Championship with rounds of 67-67-68 and a final round of 63 for a four-stroke win over Altin Van Der Merwe of South Africa, a month prior in June.
