MURRIETA, Calif. (May 29, 2008)--Santa Barbara High School put on a powerful display at The SCGA Golf Course, shooting 5-under-par as a team to win the team title in the CIF-SCGA Southern Regional High School Championship by six shots today. Johnny Mac Arthur of Hart High School in Newhall birdied the second playoff hole to win the individual title over Santa Barbara's Andrew Perez.

With the best five of six scores counting for the team total, Santa Barbara posted 355 to defeat Clovis West of Fresno and Sunny Hills of Fullerton by six shots. Each posted 361; Clovis West took second place on the basis of its sixth individual score.

The top three teams and the top six individuals not part of those teams advance to the CIF-CGA State High School Championship June 3 at Santa Maria CC. An equal number of teams and individuals from Northern California have already advanced.

In addition to Perez, Santa Barbara, which earlier this month won the CIF regional team title, was led today by Jack Perry, who shot a 2-under-par 70, Ray Gerow and Shane Lebow, who each shot 72 and Mason Fields, who posted a 74.

Arthur had six birdies and a single bogey en route to his round of 67 and added his name to the championship trophy whose winners include Tiger Woods in 1991. Perez had four birdies, an eagle 3 on the par-5 eighth hole and also had one bogey. Alex Kim of Sunny Hills finished third with 68, while Rak Cho of Brea Olinda finished fourth after shooting a 69.

Arthur and Cho were two of the six individuals who qualified. The other four each shot 70 and parred the second playoff to advance to the state championship.
