MURRIETA, Calif. (May 12, 2008)--College of the Canyons in Valencia rallied in the second round to win the team title and Cypress College’s David Min came back to capture the individual title in the California State Community College Golf Championship today at The SCGA Golf Course.

With the best five of six scores each round counting for the team total over the 7,026-yard, par-72 course, COC trailed Saddleback College of Mission Viejo by two shots after the morning round but shot 1-over-par in the afternoon to pull away from Saddleback by eight shots. COC totaled 727 while Saddleback finished at 735. Fresno City College finished another four shots back in third place.

The title was in doubt until the last two groups on the course. Casey Piper came through with a 6-under-par 66 and Andrew Ok posted a 2-under-par 70 to seal the deal. The victory was the fifth title for COC’s men’s golf team (plus two for the women’s team). Their last win was in 2006 on the same layout. “We love this course,” said COC coach Gary Peterson after the victory.

Im, a freshman from Cerritos, rallied in the afternoon by firing a 5-under-par 67 with five birdies and no bogies to edge Ok by one shot. Im shot 74-67 – 141, while Ok posted 72-70 – 140. Nick Ellis of Saddleback parred the second playoff hole to finish in third place, ahead of Raj Samra of Cypress and Matt Garcia of Foothill.
