NEW SOUTH WALES, Australia (Feb. 1, 2011) -- It will be an all-English final tomorrow in the NSW Amateur after the two Englishman won their respective semi final matches this afternoon.

Last weeks NSW Medal Winner, Andy Sullivan (Nuneaton, UK) has continued his outstanding form, finishing at 3/2 to defeat Matt Stieger (St. Michael's, NSW).

Country-men Jack Senior (Haysham, UK) had a comprehensive victory over Luke Humphries (Pymble, NSW), finishing the match 3/2.

Sullivan and Senior will play 36-holes tomorrow, kicking off at 7.30am. The winner will be declared the 2011 NSW Amateur Champion.

Quarter finals - played Tuesday a.m. (Feb. 1)

The quarter finals of the NSW Amateur Championship, played at New South Wales Golf Club today, provided some fantastic shot making as the form players battled it out for a spot in the Semi Finals.

Winner of last weeks NSW Medal, England's Andy Sullivan is continuing his outstanding form, securing a solid victory over Toukley's Dimi Papadatos, finishing the match 4/3.

In the second match of the day it was the clash of NSW State Team members, Jake Higginbottom (The Australian, NSW) and Matt Stieger (St. Michaels, NSW). The run finished here for 2010 NSW Amateur Champion Higginbottom, defeated comfortably by Stieger 6/5.

In the battle of the Englishman it went down to the final hole,with 'The Bear" Jack Senior (Haysham, UK) beating Tom Lewis (Welwyn Gardens) 1up.

In the final match of the morning it was Luke Humphries (Pymble, NSW) who was victorious, defeating Lincoln Tighe (Moore Park) 3/2.

Round of 32

It was the first day of play today in the 2011 NSW Amateur Championship Match Play rounds, being held at New South Wales Golf Club, with the Round of 32 playing 18-holes in the morning, and the Round of 16 playing 18-holes in the afternoon.

In the morning rounds, recently crowned NSW Champion of Champions Grant Thomas (Moore Park) continued his fine form by defeating Callan O'Reilly (Pennant Hills) at the 22nd hole. A fine birdie at the long 4th hole was required to break the deadlock in this match.

NSW Medal winner Andy Sullivan (Nuneaton, UK) also continued on his winning way, deafeating NSW Golf Club member John Yim 3/1. 

Another NSW Golf Club local, Michael Bell, who was tipped as the one that the favourites should keep an eye out for, knocked out English Representative Stiggy Hodson 3/2.

Meanwhile, Jake Higginbottom (The Australian) managed to survive a scare in his title defence after being taken all the way to the 18th by Queenslander Kevin Marques. 

Strong performances from Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn, UK), Dimi Papdatos (Toukley, NSW), Matt Stieger (St. Michael's, NSW), Tim Hart (Indooroopilly, QLD), Jack Senior (Haysham, UK), Andrius Belkus (Twin Creeks, NSW) , Tom Lewis (Welwyn Gardens, UK), Jarrod Freeman (Concord, NSW), Brett Drewitt (Long Reef, NSW), Jordan Zunic (Bonnie Doon, NSW) and Luke Humphries (Pymble, NSW) saw them all progress to the Round of 16. Lincoln Tighe (Moore Park, NSW) also progressed following the withdrawel of his Andrew Kirkman.

Round of 16

In the afternoon matches, the Round of 16, Andy Sullivan (Nuneaton, UK) continued his good form, defeating fellow country-men Josh Loughrey (Wrag Barn, UK).

Dimi Papadatos (Toukley, NSW) knocked out Grant Thomas (Moore Park, NSW) with a convincing 3/2 victory.

Despite playing at his home club, Michael Bell (New South Wales) couldn't hold off Matt Steiger, who won the match 1up.

2010 NSW Amateur Champion, Jake Higginbottom (The Australian, NSW) remains the Championship, defeating Queenslander Tim Hart (Indooroopilly) in another close battle.

Englishman Jack Senior (Haysham, UK) and Tom Lewis (Welwyn Gardens, UK) both won their respective matches, and will now face off against each other in the Quarter Finals.

Despite having a walk over in the round of 32, Lincoln Tighe (Moore Park, NSW) proved he's still in the contest, defeating Brett Drewitt 4/2.

Luke Humphries (Pymble, NSW) played a solid round to win his match against Jordan Zunic (Bonnie Doon, NSW).

ABOUT THE NSW Men's Amateur

The NSW Medal is played over two courses. It is two rounds of 18-holes stroke play and then match play.

The field is evenly divided between the two venues for the first day’s play with players changing venues for their second round. The winner of the 36 holes stroke play section of the Championship is the winner of the NSW Medal.

The leading 32 players from the NSW Medal (who have nominated to play in the NSW Amateur) will be eligible to compete in the NSW Amateur Championship Match Play, with each match played over 18-holes other than the Final which is played over 36-holes. The match play is seeded with ties determined by lot.
