Palm Beach Junior Senior: Bogey-Free for Anderson and Williams
JUPITER,FL (June 20, 2010)--Steve Anderson of Hobe Sound and Pete Williams of Juno Beach, played golf without a bogey for the second day in a row Sunday to win the 15th annual Abacoa Golf Club/Palm Beach County Junior-Senior Championship.

Friends for several years but never teammates on the golf course, Anderson and Williams had the day’s low score, a four-ball stroke play tally of 62 for 128, winning by six. They had been tied for the first round lead Saturday with 66 in modified alternate shots, making birdies on four of the last five holes.

“It was pretty much a stress-free round,” said Anderson, a salesman for Golden Bear Realty. “Only once did we come close to making bogey,” when Williams made a 10 footer to save par. “I had hit it to about a foot,” Anderson added, “walked up to tap it in and missed it.”

Williams, a United Airlines pilot, said Anderson “called me in February about playing in this tournament. I hope he asks me again for next year.” Added Anderson, almost immediately, “No doubt about that.”

Anderson eagled the par-5 10th hole with driver, 5-iron and a four-foot putt and made three birdies. Williams had six birdies, one at the 10th hole.

It was Anderson’s fourth Palm Beach County Golf Association victory, including the 2008 Mid-Amateur, the third for Williams, all of them team events. Each has one victory earlier this year.

Second among 34 teams were Scott Wilson and Guy Kennen of Wellington with 64-134. They were awarded low net honors at 131. Wilson had five birdies, Kennen an eagle and four birdies as he holed a chip shot from behind the green at the par-5 17th hole. They birdied the same hole three times.

Next on the PBCGA schedule: July 17-18, Nicklaus Junior Championship, PGA National-Champion, and July 30-Aug. 1, County Amateur Championship, The Falls CC. For membership information and tournament entry, go to www.pbcga.org.
