Greenbaum Wins SOS Super Senior
BOYNTON BEACH, FL (April 29, 2010)--Jerry Greenbaum of Atlanta survived bogeys on the last two holes Thursday to earn overall honors in the Society of Seniors’ 10th annual John Kline Super Seniors Championship at Delray Dunes Country Club.

Greenbaum outdueled second round leader Bill Dorece of Cincinnati to win by a stroke, 217 to 218, scoring five birdies and as many bogeys to match par-71 the final round. Dorece had four birdies and seven bogeys for 74.

“Bill played nicely today,” said Greenbaum, 69. “I was watching him closely so I knew what I had to do on the last few holes and didn’t mind those last two bogeys. I was just trying to wn the tournament. I wasn’t concerned about how many strokes I won by.

“We both birdied the 15th hole and I had a two-shot lead after he bogeyed the 16th. Then we both bogeyed the 17th and I just made sure I didn’t really take a big score at 18. I might have been able to make par at 18 if I really had to.”

It was Greenbaum’s seventh Society of Seniors victory since 1998, including the 2001 championship. He also won the Kline in 2008 and topped his age group in the ’07 Kline, the first year players ages 65-69 were included.

It was also his first win of 2010. “I’ve been playing so poorly I thought I would probably play less this year than I have been but this was a pretty good week after I got going,” he said. “I was seven over after seven holes Tuesday but three under on the last 47.”

Greenbaum, and the Society’s, next start will be the Ed Tutwiler Memorial Four-Ball May 12-14 at the Pensacola, Fla., CC.

Other flight winners: ages 70-74, Claud Johnston, Ann Arbor, Mich., 223; ages 75-79, Joe Estes, Atlanta, 230; and ages 80-up, Romie Holder, Tulsa, Okla., 234.
