Gentile & Hedden win Conn. Two Man Team

OLD LYME, Conn. (May 4, 2009) -- A cool, breezy, overcast day greeted the season-opening Two Man Team Championship held at the beautiful but challenging Black Hall Club in Old Lyme. By the time it was all over, the slight drizzle and cool temperatures were overshadowed by some fantastic play.
The morning best ball round saw fourteen teams under par and seven rounds in the 60’s. Making it even more interesting heading into the afternoon alternate shot round was that fact that there were eighteen teams within just 4 shots of the lead. In dramatic fashion, defending champions Jeff Hedden and Jim Gentile eagled the par five 14th hole to take the lead and secure a repeat trip to the podium to hoist the trophy.
Their repeat victory was in question as runners up Dave Jones and Brian Bardier – playing with the eventual champions had taken the lead. With some great shot making around the tight fairways and tucked pins of Black Hall, Jones & Bardier reportedly got to 5-under in the afternoon round before taking a double bogey. Hedden and Gentile took the opening and found a way to hold on.
At the ceremonies afterwards, head pro at Black Hall, Andrew Campbell, chided Jeff Hedden, a member at the host club, advising that it will take a bit more than a repeat victory to replace tournament honoree, Bill Hermanson. It was stated by Campbell that Jeff has a few more victories to try to catch up with the 23 plus Club Championships Bill Hermanson has at Black Hall.
