Coronado City Championship: Shahi wins easily
CORONADO, Calif. (Nov. 25, 2007)-- Sean Shahi fired an opening round 7-under-par 65 in first-round play at the Coronado City Championship, held at the Coronado Golf Course, then cruised to victory with an even-par second round.
"With a five-stroke lead I really didn't want to hold back, I wanted to attack because I knew you can score really well out here," said Shahi. "I just wanted to go out there and make as many birdies as I can. I ended up making four birdies and four bogeys, shooting even par.
"I'll take it, a win's a win."
Shahi, a junior at University of California Irvine, is coming off a streak of impressive collegiate performances, including a victory last week at Hawaii.
"I've been playing really well actually, I've added up my total score for the last eight or nine rounds I've played and I'm at 43-under," said Shahi. "I just came off a win at a Hawaii Collegiate tournament where I shot 16-under for three rounds. All together it's been pretty good."
His only dicey spot occured on Sunday's 16th hole, where his drive bounced off a row of rocks separating the fairway from the bay and ended up on the fairway. He ended up making par.
"I got a member's bounce out there that really helped me out" said Shahi.
