COLUMBIA, S.C. (Sept 19, 2007) -- Walker Martin of Oakton,
Va., has won the inaugural fall super seniors classic staged by the
Society of Seniors. After opening with a pair of 70s on the P.B. Dye course
at the Windermere Club, Martin closed Wednesday with 76 for 216, even par
for the distance. He won both his age group, 65-69, and overall honors by
four shots.
Other
age group leaders were Heyward Sullivan, Greenville, S.C., 70-74, 225; Romie
Holder, Tulsa, Okla., 75-79, 240; and Dave
Paul, Peabody, Mass., 80-and-over, 265.
The Society
of Seniors is an organization of amateur golfers 55 years and older with handicaps
of three or less. Super seniors play is for members at least 65 years of age.
With
the addition of the fall super seniors classic, the Society now has five tournaments
annually. Next on the schedule: Oct. 22-25, Dale Morey Stroke Play Championship,
Fiddlesticks GC, Fort Myers, Fla., and Dec.
