Jensen, co-MVP of the Cal Golf Team, entered the final 18 holes tied with San Jose State Senior Justin Madison, red hot off a morning round of 65.

Jensen faced serious pressure in the afternoon round from James Hay, who got within two strokes of the lead on the 8th hole. Jensen chipped in from behind the green on the 9th, where the back-to-front slope, coupled with the traditionally fast San Jose Country Club greens could have easily resulted in a bogey. From that point on, he was never seriously challenged.

Madison shot 75 in the afternoon round, finding it difficult to follow up his 5-under-par morning round.

According the to the Assistant Pro at San Jose Country Club, afternoon conditions were "pretty windy and tough" and scores of those who qualified for the final 18 holes of the 54-hole weekend event were anything but low.

Note: The tournament is named for famed amateur Ernie Pieper, who won the tournament in 7 different decades of his life from the teens to the 70's. Top that!
