SCGA Affiliate Team: Benmoin, Yeh win another

FALLBROOK, Calif. (July 25, 2007)-- Less than a year after winning the SCGA Four-Ball Net Championship, Jeffrey Benmoin of Rancho Cucamonga and Jim Yeh of Sylmar teamed up again this year to win the 20th SCGA Affiliate Team Championship at Pala Mesa Resort in Fallbrook.
The pair of Roger Dunn-Rancho Cucamonga golfers and respiratory therapists at Children's Hospital Los Angeles are the only team in the history of the two tournaments to hold the two titles simultaneously--winning the Four-Ball under their Sierra Lakes CC team, they both joined Roger Dunn specifically to enter the Pinehurst-format affiliate championship. They finished at 14-under-par for the two-round championship, shooting 62-68.
"I looked at the results from last year and realized that the Pinehurst format is much tougher than four-ball," Yeh said. "We followed our game plan to play more conservatively than yesterday, and we made some clutch putts."
Benmoin and Yeh combined for two eagles, 14 birdies and only four bogeys through the two-day, 36-hole net tournament, sneaking by The Tree House GC's Bruce Taylor and Kristin Williams by one shot. Williams, the Vice President Flight co-winner in the 2005 SCGA Tournament of Club Champions, and Taylor, both of Simi Valley, collected three eagles in their 65-66 effort.
Also in the top of the pack was Team No. 1 for Coast Golfers' Association of San Diego, comprised of Bill and Gary Davison of Chula Vista and Escondido, respectively, which shot 62-67-132. The team, who was tied for first place after the first round, ended tied for third with Navy Public Works Center's John Usilton of Chula Vista and Andre Fitzpatrick of La Mesa, 67-65.
Two teams tied for fifth at 134: Red Tide, with Bonita's Bob Swisher and San Diego's Daniel Parker, shot 67-67, while Pacific Coast's Ernie Gomez of Whittier and Bob Campregher of Huntington Beach shot 69-65.
"My first SCGA tournament was the Amateur Net Championship a couple of years ago," Benmoin said after the tournament. "I was in contention and then blew up on the 18th hole. I looked at those big winners' plates and said, 'I'm going to get my game together and win at least one of those.' Two is great."
