Claude Harmon Invt'l: Upsets in final round

HOUSTON, Texas (April 29, 2007)-- Both the championship and senior flights of the Claude Harmon Invitational, played at the Lochinvar Golf Club, played out in similar fashion, with the top seeds taking on the No. 3 seeds.

Both times it was the No. 3's that came out on top, with Eddie Lyons defeating Jeff New 2 & 1 in the championship flight, and Bill Jackson topping Bill Sumner 3 & 2 in the senior flight.

In the previous rounds, Lyons bested Pay Youngs 2 & 1 and New beat Anthony Spikes 5 & 4.

Sumner beat Harry Bettis 1-up in the senior semi's, while Jackson went 2 & 1 over Robert Shelton.

ABOUT THE Claude Harmon Invitational

Invitational flighted match play event honoring Claude Harmon, who was the golf Professional Emeritus at Lochinvar when the club opened. There are six flights of 16 players, with consolation brackets and a one-day medal competition for those who are eliminated from match play. An 18-hole qualifier is held for the Harmon (Championship) Flight.

To be considered for the field, a player must be recommended by someone already in the field, or be invited by the tournament committee.
