PEBBLE BEACH, CA (December 7, 2016) -- Zach Smith and Noah Woolsey turned in an 8-under 63 at Poppy Hills Poppy Hills Golf Course to qualify for the 2017 U.S. Amateur Four-Ball at Pinehurst Resort. The duo put together a nine birdie, one bogey round to finish one shot in front of the second team to qualify, Brett Booth and Dan Valine.

Smith and Woolsey had their best best stretch of the day from Nos. 6-10 when they birdied five straight. Three of the birdies came from Smith, the other two from Woolsey.

Booth and Valine jumped out to a 3-under start through four holes before dropping a shot on the 5th. That bogey would prove to be their only dropped shot of the day as they birdied four more holes throughout the rest of their round and signed for a 7-under 64.

Luke Bakke and Jay Reynolds finished third and just one shot out of a potential playoff. The duo posted a 6-under 65 and they will be the first alternate. The second alternates are Zan Banks and Brian Ferris following a 5-under day.

Each of the last two years former Arizona State golf coach Tim Mickelson and Jake Yount had qualified from the site but this year they were 4-under and in fifth.
