North & South Junior: 36-holes down, 18-holes remain on Wednesday

VILLAGE OF PINEHURST, NC (July 5, 2016) -- After two rounds of play at the Pinehurst Resort Stephen Carroll is 2-under and ahead by one in the North & South Junior Amateur Boy's Division. Carroll currently leads a trio of players at 1-under and tied for second place.

One day after shooting 4-under 68 on Pinehurst No. 8 Carroll carded a 2-over 72 on Pinehurst No. 2. During his Tuesday round the East Carolina commit rolled in three birdies, three bogeys and a double-bogey. The three birds came on holes 3, 5 and 9.

The group at 1-under includes Alberto Martinez, Cooper Sears and Mason Williams who shot the round of the day, a 3-under 67.

Williams, from Bridgeport, WV was the only player under-par on Tuesday as he tallied five birdies and two bogeys. His most impressive stretch of golf came on the back nine when he posted a bogey-free 4-under 31.

James McHugh and JonErik Alford are tied for fifth at even-par while Connor Creasy and Clay Feagler are 1-over and in a tie for seventh.

Wednesday's final round will return the Boy's Division to Pinehurst No. 8 with the final group set to tee off at 9:36 a.m.

With two rounds complete in the Girl's Division Lauren Beaudreau and Micheala Williams share the lead at 1-over.

On Monday, playing on Pinehurst No. 2, Beaudreau opened with a 4-over 76 before turning things around Tuesday with a 3-under 69 on Pinehurst No. 6. Beaudreau, from Lemont, IL tallied four birdies, a bogey and a double-bogey. However, the hands down highlight of the day came on the 413 yard par-5 15th when she walked away with a an eagle.

Williams followed up a Monday even-par 72 with a Tuesday 1-over 73. The Athens, AL resident was struggling though her first 14 holes of the day and was 3-over with only four holes remaining. Then like Beaudreau, Williams took advantage of the par-5 15th as she carded an eagle of her own.

Brooke Sansom, Kathryn Carson and Julia Johnson are tied for third at 3-over while another three players are 4-over and tied for sixth.

The final round of the Girl's Division will be played Wednesday on Pinehurst No. 6 and the final pairing will tee off at 9:36 a.m.

ROUND ONE RECAP

Four players share the first round lead in the Boy's Division of the North & South Junior Amateur at the Pinehurst Resort. Competing on Pinehurst No. 8 JonErik Alford, Stephen Carroll, Clay Feagler and Cooper Sears all shot opening round 4-under 68's.

The first place quartet will carry a two-stroke lead into Tuesday's second round when play will shift to Pinehurst No. 2. Six players presently share fifth at 2-under while another four are 1-under and tied for 11th, only three back.

In the Girl's Division Brooke Sansom is 3-under and leading the way after a 69 on Pinehurst No. 2. Kathryn Carson, the only other player under-par, is 2-under and in second place.

Three players are tied for third following opening even-par 72's.

On Tuesday the Girl's Division will make their way to Pinehurst No. 6 for the second round.

ABOUT THE North & South Junior

Part of the annual North & South series of tournaments at Pinehurst that include Men's, Women's, Juniors and Seniors. Entries are open to male and female golfers who are between the ages of 15 and 18 (Ages as of tournament start). Contestants must not have reached their nineteenth birthday by start of tournament, OR must not have started college. All applicants must conform to the USGA Rules of Amateur Status and meet the requirements of the USGA Gender Policy. FORMAT: 54-holes of stroke play will determine the Champion. Play will be divided into two divisions: Boys and Girls. A full field will consist of 90 boys and 90 girls.
