ABOUT THE Cravens Invitational

The Cravens Invitational began in 1925 and has been played at San Gabriel Country Club since 1943. It annually attracts teams from all over the nation.

John Cravens, a Southern California sportsman, had the idea for the event when he saw two-ball foursome matches in Scotland. He staged the first tournament at the old Midwick Country Club in 1925. It was moved to San Gabriel Country Club in 1943 and has become an integral part of the golf program at San Gabriel.

The rules are simple - Each player must have a handicap under 13 (11.9 index) and be an amateur. The winners of each match are based on the net scores. It is a grueling event. To win the Championship, a team might have to play as many as 108 holes, counting a qualifying round.
