After posting a round of even-par 72 in the first round of the event, AmateurGolf.com member and San Diego resident Ryan Emery carded an eagle on each of the final two rounds to post back-to-back rounds of 70 to take home the trophy at the World Stars of Amateur Golf at Tukwet Canyon in Beaumont, Cal.
While most of the golfers struggled with their consistency, Emery remained steady with only one tough stretch of holes during the week, taking three consecutive bogeys on the second day on hole Nos. 13, 14 and 15. He quickly righted the ship as he went back-to-back birdies on 16 and 17. He began his second day with an eagle on the par-4 first and a birdie on the par-4 third hole.
Emery’s final round also began with promise with an opening birdie, but a bogey on the par-3 second hole brought him back to even for the day. He then carded another eagle on a par-4, this time it was the third hole. Another bogey on the outward nine and a birdie on the 11th hole gave him a total of 212 for the tournament, six shots better than the trio of second place finishers, Josh McCollum, Kyle Pollema and Seung Yub Baek.
