South Carolina Sr Better Ball: Sudden Death Decides It
SANTEE, South Carolina (Sept 10, 2006) -- The team of Randy Johnson (Goose Creek) and Joe Padgette (North Charleston) made par on the third sudden death playoff hole to defeat Neal Baker (Charleston) and Bill Smunk (Kingstree) in the 2006 SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship. Both teams shot a final round of six under par 66 to earn a two day total of 10 under par 134 to force the playoff. Both teams tied for the low round of the tournament along with Mike Weiner (Kiawah Island) and 2006 SCGA Senior Champion, Dave Hambly (Bluffton). Weiner and Hambly finished two strokes back at eight under 136.
In the first flight, Edward Anthony (Mt. Pleasant) and Mo York (Isle of Palms) tied Eric Dollenberg (Hilton Head) and David Eichenberger (Hilton Head) for a total of three under par 141. The 2005 SCGA Senior Player of the Year, Tommy Ford (Mt. Pleasant) and his partner, Charlie Swanson (Mt. Pleasant), defending Senior Better Ball Champions, finished third after shooting a tournament score of two under par 142.
Donnie Edwards (Mt. Pleasant) and Patrick Sheehan (Mt. Pleasant) took the honors in the Second Flight by posting a score of 70 on Sunday and finishing the tournament at six over par. Two teams tied for second in the Second Flight by shooting a tournament total of seven over, 149.
The 33rd Annual SCGA Senior Better Ball Championship was played on the par 72, Santee Cooper Country Club in Santee, S.C. The field consisted of 64 two-man teams playing Best Ball format conducted over thirty six holes. The Senior Better Ball Championship is one of 17 Major Championships conducted annually by the South Carolina Golf Association.

The Senior Better Ball Championship is an
opportunity for good friends to get together and
enjoy a weekend of golf at one of the area's finest
facilities - Santee Cooper Golf Club. With a better
ball format and teams broken into flights after the
first round, competition is available at all levels of
ability.
A 10:00 AM shotgun start on both days also means
that participants won't be spending their entire day
on the golf course. Come join us in one of the
longest running Senior events in the SCGA
