BLYTHEWOOD, S. C. (June 19, 2015) -- 32 players battled it out Friday morning in the match play portion of the 43rd South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship at The Windermere Club in Blythewood, S. C.. After 36 holes of play, only 8 players remain.
Surprisingly, the highest remaining seed in the field is Brandon Truesdale of Winnsboro, S.C. Truesdale earned the 5th seed after rounds of 71 and 67 in strokeplay. He would keep his strong play going with a 1 up win against Preston Cole and follow it with a 2&1 win against Cameron Mackay, only making one bogey during his match.
Bradley Kauffman of Greer, S.C. was the number one overall seed by virtue of his victory in this event last year. Kauffman was 3 up in his first round match going into hole 16 against Jake Smith when Smith won the 16th hole with a par and then reeled off three clutch birdies to win the match in 19 holes. The native of Duncan, S.C. also made it past his 2nd round opponent and will face #8 seed Jeremy Grab in his quarterfinal match.
2012 South Carolina Match Play Champion Matthew Laydon made it through to the quarterfinals via a 3&2 first round victory and a 2 up round of 16 win. He will be a player to watch out for as the quarterfinals begin Saturday morning followed by the semifinal matches in the afternoon. The 18-hole championship match will take place Sunday morning.
