Wilson Furr extends lead at Mississippi State Amateur
Wilson Furr Leads the way at Miss. State Amateur
JACKSON, Miss. (June 19, 2015) — The Mississippi State Amateur is through 36 holes at the 7,300 yard Country Club of Jackson. Leading the way at 11-under par is Jackson native Wilson Furr who backed up a bogey-free 67 yesterday with a 66 today.
Furr rolled in an astounding eight birdies in Friday's round, totaling 13 so far this week. Furr has committed to attend the University of Alabama once he graduates high school in 2017.
Trailing Furr by four strokes is Braden Thornberry of Olive Branch, Miss. who followed up a 67 yesterday with a 2-under 70 in round two. Thornberry got as low as nine-under during his round after opening with two birdies and knocking in an eagle at the par-5 14th hole. However, a triple bogey on the par-4 16th stalled his momentum and potentially cost him a very low round.
Nonetheless, the University of Mississippi signee has the best chance of anyone to catch Furr over the final two rounds of stroke play, ending Sunday the 21st.
