Illinois commit Michael Feagles wins Arizona Stroke Play
Michael Feagles
LAVEEN VILLAGE, Ariz. — University of Illinois commit Michael Feagles, a high-school junior from Scottsdale, shot a final-round 65 to win the Arizona Stroke Play Championship at Aguila Golf Course on Sunday.
The 72-hole event began on Thursday with Feagles opening with four-over 74, which left him six back of first-round leader Adam Walicki. But by the second round, Feagles had cut the deficit to two with a second-round 67.
He entered Sunday's fourth round down by three, but closed with two birdies and an eagle in his last five holes, taking advantage of Walicki's double bogey on 15, to shoot 65 and snag a three-stroke win.
Walicki tied for second place at two-under 278, along with Peter Koo, who shot the lowest round of the tournament (64) to jump into the runner-up position on Sunday.
Feagles will be a senior this fall at Brophy College Preparatory School in Scottsdale, Arizona.
