The National at Whisper Rock: Wright, McNeil hold lead

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Cold and wet conditions replaced blustery and firm as rain moved into the Phoenix metropolitan area on Friday for round two of The National at Whisper Rock.

Day one at Whisper Rock saw Jon Wright and his partner Greg McNeil open with a 66 to lead by a stroke, and the pair still holds that one-stroke advantage after a 70 in round two.

The Mid-Amateur/Senior best-ball event is a 54-hole tournament hosted at the prestigious Whisper Rock Golf Club.

While Wright and McNeil lead the Mid-Amateur division at eight-under, with Trent Dilfer and Drew Olson trailing by one, Brian Tennyson and John Given jumped to a three-shot lead in the Senior Division, shooting 66 on Friday while first-round leaders Mac McGee and Ron Kilby shot 72. They're four back in third place.

Californians Jeff Wilson and Todd Barsotti posted 67, on top of a Thursday 70, and hold second place. Wilson is the reigning Southern California Mid-Amateur champion, having captured the event this April.
