St. Louis Amateur: Wootten takes lead

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (July 25, 2014) -- Day one of this year’s championship was a spectacular summer day as 67 players teed it up at beautiful Sunset Country Club in Sunset Hills, MO.

While the weather was brisk in the morning, Michael Wootten (Whitmoor CC) shot a sizzling 3 under par 69 to lead the field after day one. Close behind were Phil Caravia (Norwood Hills CC) and Brian Lovett (Bellerive CC) followed with two under par 70’s. Sam Migdal (Aberdeen GC) came in late in the day with an even par 72. Van Pierce (Country Club of St. Albans) shot a one over par 73.

Friday could be an interesting day, as a fair number of players will be competing for the last few spots in the field of 16.

ABOUT THE St. Louis Amateur

ELIGIBILITY: Entrant must be a male amateur member of a Member Club of the St. Louis District Golf Association or a special invitee. The entrant must have an up-to-date and current USGA GHIN Handicap Index of not more than 8.0. This entry and Handicap must be certified by an Association or Club authorized to issue a USGA GHIN Handicap. Entries are subject to rejection at any time (including during the Championship) by the Championship Committee. The reason for rejection may include unbecoming conduct. Exempt players need not meet the Handicap Index requirement. Championship Committee reserves the right to issue special exemptions.

The field will be limited to the 132 applicants with the lowest USGA GHIN Handicap Indexes.
