Magnolia Amateur: Southern Miss' Brady grabs lead

HATTIESBURG, Miss. (July 12, 2014) -- Kevin Brady of Southern Miss carded a second-round 64 and grabbed the lead entering Sunday's final round at the 2014 Magnolia Amateur at Hattiesburg Country Club.

Brady shot 69 in Friday's opening round of play but leaped a group of players that shared the lead with 67s with his stellar round on Saturday.

Will Thrash of Huntingdon College is at 6-under following rounds of 67-69. He's tied alongside Ben Snow (70-66).

J.T. Taylor of Sam Houston State is at 5-under while Fernando Cruz Valle of Louisiana-Lafayette sits at 3-under to round of the top five.

ABOUT THE The Magnolia Amateur

The Magnolia Amateur is a limited field event of 156 players consisting of a collegiate division and a mid-amateur division. The field will be cut to the low 60 players and ties after 36 holes of competition has been completed. The overall champion may come from either division, with the competition taking place over 3 days and 54 holes.

Along with the individual tournament, there is a college team competition that will be based on the combined scores of two players on the same team over the 3 rounds.

It is an exclusive amateur tournament, where players are reviewed and accepted by the Tournament Committee.
