2006 Iowa Match Play Champion
POLK CITY, IA (June 29, 2006) -- Jon Brown upped his record in the IGA State Match Play over the last 4 years to 21-2 when he defeated Cory Braunschweig 3&2 in the Finals. This was the 10th IGA Point Event title for Brown, who will look to win the Iowa Masters for the third straight year next week.
Brown was the champion of the Match Play in 2003, lost in the finals in 2004 and lost in the semifinals last year.
The final match featured very strong play from both competitors. Through 14 holes Braunschweig was 3-under par and was 3-down in the match. Brown had birdied 7 of the first 13 holes to take control.
Brown got to the finals by ousting Bill Manske 7&5 in their morning semifinal match while Braunschweig dispatched of Terry Cook 2 up.

ABOUT THE Iowa Match Play
18 holes of stroke play qualifying to determine a 64-
player match play bracket. The defending champion
is exempt
from the 18-hole qualifying round. The defending
champion
may choose to compete in the qualifying round to
earn medalist
honors but is assured of no lower than the #2 seed
in Match Play. Must be an IGA member.
