Indiana Four-Ball: Aldrich, Widner take it
RICHMOND, Ind. (May 18, 2014) -- After four playoff holes today and an ace yesterday, teammates Brett Widner and Donnie Aldrich were able to pull off a victory at the IGA Four Ball Championship. Widner and Aldrich posted a team best ball of 1-over-par 72 today to finish in a 36-hole tie with teammates Brian Harris and Derek Moore at Forest Hills CC.
"We played really solid yesterday, but we struggled today,” Widner said. "We got off to a good start and at one point had it to 6-under-par, but a few bogeys and a double on 11 set us back a bit.”
Harris and Moore also carded a few bogeys on the back nine, and with a tough pin position on the par 5, 18th, both teams finished their rounds with a bogey, 6, forcing a playoff.
After three playoff holes, two pars, and one bogey, the playoff came down to the tricky 18th hole for the second time today. With a par to Harris’s and Moore’s bogey, Widner and Aldrich grabbed the Four Ball title.
"It feels great,” Widner said. "We played in the mid-am team earlier this season and finished seventh. We have a few more team events coming up and it’s awesome to get an early win.”
Teammates Jeff Mullin and Matt Herig finished in a tie for third along with Tyler Haire and Terry Geiger.
