IPSWICH, Mass. (May 13, 2014) -- Alex Stimpson and James Kroeger found themselves in familiar standing Tuesday, finishing atop the leaderboard for a second time at the Massachusetts Four-Ball.
The 2012 champions shot 68 on Monday at Ferncroft Country Club and followed it up with a red-hot 8-under 64 at Turner Hill to win by one shot over the Franklin Country Club duo of Brad Stewart and Brian Higgins (66-67).
Facing completely different conditions than in Round 1, Stimpson and Kroeger surged up the leaderboard, shooting the low round of the tournament.
Herbie Aikens and Matt Parziale shot 67-68 to take solo third place while first-round leaders Ryan Riley and Jamison Randall finished fourth, shooting 66-70.
Stimpson and Kroeger are good friends and co-workers at Titleist. Last year, they fell to Richy and Mickey Werenski, who weren't in the field this year.
“On the way here this morning we both talked about it and said that 7 under will get us in the hunt,” said Stimpson to the Massachusetts Golf Association. “We got off to a good start and then were a little slow and then on the back nine we had a lot of good opportunities.”
