Amateurs win Tennessee Challenge Cup
CROSSVILLE, Tenn. (Oct. 27, 2013) -- The top amateur golfers in Tennessee represented the Tennessee Golf Association in style by winning their fourth straight Tennessee Challenge Cup Matches presented by SunTrust.
This year’s event, hosted by Stonehenge Golf Club in Crossville, TN was filled with excitement as the Cup was sealed late in the afternoon Sunday.
The Tennessee Section PGA Professionals jumped out with the early lead Saturday morning winning five of the eight Four-Ball matches. After a hot meal and a motivational rousing by TGA Captain Mike Jenkins of Chattanooga, the Amateurs won six of the eight possible points in the afternoon foursomes matches to take a nine to seven overall lead heading into Sundays singles’ matches. An eight to eight split in Sunday’s singles’ matches lead to the overall seventeen to fifteen victory by the Amateur Team.
This year’s Bobby Nichols Most Valuable Player Award was presented to Mike Freels for his three wins in this year’s Cup Matches.
