'Bama Sr. Four-Ball: 4 teams share lead
KILLEN, Ala. (Oct. 11, 2013) -- Four teams lead the way after six-under-par 66′s in the 19th State Senior Four Ball Championship at Turtle Point Yacht & Country Club in Killen on Friday.
They include two-time former champions Mike Greer of Birmingham and Tom Jungkind of Bessemer who won this state championship in 2011 and 2012.
Along with former State Amateur champion Talbert Griffin III of Birmingham and Tuscaloosa’s David Zauchin; David Head of Sterrett and Sylacauga’s Randy Smith; and Dora’s Bill Griffin and Howard Mullinax of Mount Olive.
Greer and Jungkind had birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 7, 8, 9, 14 and 15 against a lone bogey on No. 6.
Bill Griffin and Mullinax had four two’s, including an eagle on No. 15, plus other two other birdies, but carded two bogeys as well.
Head and Smith had birdies on Nos. 2, 4, 6, 13, 17 and 18, while Talbert Griffin and Zauchin had a torrid run of birdies on Nos. 2, 3 and 4, followed by an eagle on No. 5, and a birdie on No. 7. Bogeys on Nos. 9 and 12 cooled them down a little before birdies on 14 and 15 brought them back to six-under.
The championship will conclude Sunday and is 54 holes stroke play. It is the final Alabama Golf Association championship of the season.
