Florida (FSGA) Two-Man Shootout

AMELIA ISLAND, FL (May 21, 2006) -- Takahiro Akaishi and Takeshi Fuchigami won the 2006 Two-Man Shoot-Out Championship by two strokes carding a three-round total of 201 at Amelia Island Plantation on May 20-21.

In the first round of alternate shot on Amelia Island’s Oak Marsh course, Takahiro Akaishi and Takeshi Fuchigami, both from Tampa, posted a 74 to be five strokes off the leading team. The pair moved into first place after a second round score of 59 in the two-man scramble on the Long Point course. With an eagle on the 18th hole, the team’s 59 was the low round of the tournament. After 36 holes of play on Saturday, Akaishi and Fuchigami led the field of 52 teams by two strokes going into the final round of play on Sunday. In four-ball, Akaishi and Fuchigami recorded a strong 68 on the Long Point course to secure the title by two strokes.

Charlie Commander and Richard Maddox, both from Panama City, jumped into second place with a final round score of 66 in the four-ball. The team carded a 74-63 in the first two rounds to finish with a 203 total. Ken Stevenson, of Tallahassee, and Clark Wiley, of Atlantic Beach, finished third with scores of 69-66-70—205.

ABOUT THE Florida Two-Man Shootout

The Two-Man Shoot-Out is a unique Championship combining modified alternate shot, two-man scramble and four-ball formats. Each round is considered a separate competition with prizes being awarded for each, as well as an overall winner for the Championship.

Open to male amateur golfers. One entrant must be at least 16 years of age as of the first day of the Championship, and both entrants must be FSGA members.
