Kupcho leads Colorado Stroke Play
DENVER, Colo. (August 10, 2013) — Defending champion Steven Kupcho of CommonGround Golf Course followed up a second-round 67 with a 4-under-par 66 on Saturday and will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the 77th CGA Stroke Play Championship at Pinehurst Country Club in south Denver.

The University of Northern Colorado golfer carded five birdies and one bogey in round 3, leaving him at 7-under 203 going into Sunday's final 18. Kupcho, the 2012 CGA Player of the Year, is attempting to become the first back-to-back winner of the Stroke Play since Kane Webber prevailed in 2002 and '03.

Colorado School of Mines golfer John Ahern, from Bear Creek Golf Club, stands in second place at 205 after firing a 68 on Saturday, though the 2011 CGA Junior Match Play champion closed with a bogey.

Derek Fribbs of Colorado National Golf Club, the 2013 CGA Public Links champion, moved into a share of third place with the low round of the tournament so far, a 5-under-par 65. The former University of Colorado golfer shot a 5-under 30 on the back nine Saturday to check in at 206.

Also at that figure is first-round co-leader Brendan Connolly of the Ridge at Castle Pines North, who posted a 68 on Saturday.

All told, five challengers remain within five strokes of Kupcho.

The lead group in the final round -- Kupcho, Ahern and Fribbs -- will tee off at 9:50 a.m. on Sunday.
