Texas Junior: Annika Clark wins girls title
HORSESHOE BAY, Texas (July 31, 2013) – 2015 graduate Annika Clark carded a 1-under-par 71 in the final round to win the Texas State Junior Championship presented by Merrill Lynch. The TCU commit finished three shots ahead of Julia Beck. It is Clark’s first Legends Junior Tour victory.

Conducted by the Legends Junior Tour, the Texas State Junior Championship presented by Merrill Lynch featured 72 girls from across the state of Texas. The par-72 Horseshoe Bay Resort Slick Rock course played 5,857 yards for the Girls 15-18 division. There were 29 players after the second-round cut was made playing on Wednesday morning.

Much like Tuesday’s second round, Clark started off with something worse than a par. She bogeyed her first hole in Wednesday’s final round and made two more bogeys in the next five holes, but settled into her routine an finished the front nine 1-over-par.

"I started off rough with a bogey,” she said. "I wasn’t really making any of my putts either so I was just kind of concentrating on getting back to even par and trying to stay steady there.”

Clark made pars on the first two holes of the back nine, then came up just short of the green on the par-5 12th hole in two. She chipped up close for a tap in birdie and then went on to birdie the 13th hole also. She was bogey-free the rest of the way and finished at 1-under-for the day and 3-under-par for the tournament.

Said Clark, "I am super excited about my victory, but I think my dad might be a little more excited. This was by far the most competitive tournament I have won and plan on being back next year to try and repeat.”

Beck, the leader after the first and second rounds, finished three shots behind Clark after a final-round 75. The Austin native will be playing golf at the University of Texas in the fall. It was her second runner-up finish in a row at the Texas State Junior Championship. Thirteen-year-old Hailee Cooper of Montgomery finished in third place after an even-par 72 final round.

Amber Wang, winner of the 2013 Lanny Wadkins Junior Championship, finished in fourth place seven shots back of Clark. Alisa Chong of Carrollton, Maddie McCrary of Wylie, and Kallie Gonzales of Montgomery all tied for fifth place at 7-over-par for the tournament.

The Legends Junior Tour would like to thank Horseshoe Bay Resort, their hotel, food and beverage, and golf staff. The Tour would also like to thank the members of Horseshoe Bay, all live scoring volunteers, and the numerous college coaches that came out.
