Cardinal Amateur: Coalson extends lead

GREENSBORO, N.C. (July 20, 2013) -- UNC Greensboro's Taylor Coalson remains in the lead after two rounds at the 2013 Cardinal Amateur.

Coalson followed his first-round 65 with a 71 on Saturday and heads into Sunday's finale with a five-shot advantage.

Coalson holds that advantage over a quartet of contenders at 1-over through the first two rounds.

he inaugural Cardinal Amateur, played in 1978, was designed to offer the world's finest amateur golfers the opportunity to face the challenge of a superb golf course in an atmosphere reflecting the highest ideal of amateur athletics, with fierce competition and sportsmanlike comraderie.

Many former competitors are now on the PGA, Senior PGA and Nationwide tours.

Jay Sigel, a winner on the senior tour, has been quoted as saying that the Cardinal Am is one of the finest amateur tournaments in the country and one which he wishes he had won during his amateur career.

Notable 2nd-round scores include: N.C. mid-am Scott Harvey (5-over, T16), Matt Crenshaw (7-over, T21), Clemson commit and highly-ranked junior Cody Proveaux (7-over, T21).
